Continuous supervision

Continuous supervision gives an uninterrupted video stream instead of event-triggered video. It is for users who need round-the-clock supervision, such as users with severe epilepsy.

For / Required Role: Technician, Responder

If not already, Continuous supervision must be switched on for the account by Support. Once it is, camera profiles get a Continuous supervision section for Technicians, and Responders get Continuous supervision in their menu.

As Technician

Set up continuous supervision

  1. Go to Camera profiles and open or create the profile to use.
  2. In Continuous supervision, turn on Active.
  3. Turn on Sound alert if needed, and set the Threshold (dBFS), from βˆ’60 to 0. The recommended level is βˆ’30 dBFS.
  4. Select Save.
  5. Attach the camera to the user with this profile, or change the camera's profile in Cameras.

The threshold in the profile is the default for its cameras. A camera can have its own threshold; see Set the sound level threshold.

As Responder

Watch the cameras

Personnel watch the cameras in TelluCare, on the web or in the app.

  1. Select Continuous Supervision in your menu.
  2. Open the Available cameras tab. It lists the cameras with continuous supervision, with the user's first and last name, the camera name and the device group.
  3. Select the cameras you want to watch. Each selection is saved at once, and a message confirms it.
  4. Open the Continuous Supervision tab. The selected cameras are shown side by side.

If no cameras are selected, the tab shows No cameras. To show the cameras in full screen, select the full-screen button in the top right corner.

Each camera shows the user's name and the camera's status icons at the bottom of the image.

Use the camera menu

Select the arrow button at the bottom of a camera image to open its menu. The options depend on the camera and its camera profile.

Option What it does Shown when
Open camera Opens the camera in its own view, where you can also create presets. Always
Mute Turns the sound from the camera off or on. Always
Privacy Turns anonymization off or on. The anonymization policy is On, can be turned off or On, can be turned off with a reason
Background Turns the blur of the background off or on. The anonymization type is a silhouette type and anonymization is on
Sound level threshold Sets the sound level that makes a red frame appear around the camera image. Sound alert is on in the camera profile
Presets Moves the camera to a saved position, such as Home. The camera can pan, tilt and zoom (PTZ)
Set the sound level threshold

When the sound from the camera goes above the threshold, a red frame appears around the camera image.

  1. Open the camera menu and select Sound level threshold.
  2. Enter the threshold in dBFS, from βˆ’60 to 0.
  3. Select Confirm.

The threshold is saved on the camera and applies to everyone who views it. Until it is set, the camera uses the default from its camera profile.

dBFS means decibels relative to full scale. Lower values (more negative) are quieter, and values closer to 0 are louder.

Level Typical sound
0 dBFS Maximum possible level
βˆ’6 dBFS Very loud, near peak levels
βˆ’12 dBFS Loud speech or music
βˆ’20 dBFS Normal conversation
βˆ’40 dBFS Quiet speech
βˆ’60 dBFS Very quiet background noise

For most situations, a value between βˆ’30 dBFS and βˆ’20 dBFS picks up normal conversation without reacting to background noise.

Move the camera to a preset

If the camera can pan, tilt and zoom, its saved positions are listed under presets in the camera menu. Select a preset to move the camera there. A camera with no saved positions shows This camera doesn't have presets.

Create a preset
  1. Open the camera menu and select Open camera.
  2. Zoom in on the area you want to save.
  3. Select Preset (the bookmark icon).
  4. Under New preset, enter a Preset name and select Save.

The new preset appears under presets in the camera menu.

Sound alert

With sound alert on, a frame appears around the camera image whenever the sound level goes above the threshold. It draws attention to the stream; it does not raise an alarm.

To raise an alarm on sound, use event-based supervision instead. See Camera events.

Good to know

  • Continuous supervision only works when it is switched on for the account and active in the camera profile. If either is missing, the camera does not appear in Available cameras.
  • Available cameras only lists active users in your user groups.
  • The camera selection is saved in the browser. On another computer or browser, select the cameras again.
