Deactivating cameras

Deactivating cameras pauses all of a user's cameras for a period, for example during a visit. While the cameras are deactivated, nobody can see the video stream and camera events raise no alarms. Every other alarm carries on as normal.

For / Required Role: Technician, Responder

Technicians and responders can deactivate cameras.

Method Who How long How it reactivates
Deactivate camera on the user profile Technician A duration you choose, from 5 minutes to 12 hours Automatically when the time runs out, or when someone turns it off
Deactivate camera in the user list or on the user profile, in a browser or in TelluGo Responder A duration you choose, from 5 minutes to 12 hours Automatically when the time runs out, or when someone turns it off
A responder confirms arrival at the user in TelluGo Responder Until the alarm is closed Automatically when the alarm is closed
Physical button Anyone in the room 60 minutes Automatically after 60 minutes, or right away if the button is pressed again

As Technician

  1. Go to Users and open the user.
  2. On Overview, find Deactivate camera for a period to protect privacy and avoid alerts during visits, and turn on Deactivate camera.
  3. Under Select duration, choose 5, 10 or 30 minutes, or 1, 2, 4, 8 or 12 hours. Or enter your own number of minutes under Custom duration.
  4. Select Confirm, then Confirm again. The profile shows Camera is deactivated until: with the date and time.
  5. To reactivate the cameras early, turn off Deactivate camera. If the cameras were deactivated by the physical button or by a responder's arrival, you are warned that someone may still be with the user. Select Activate camera to go ahead. The video stream is available again and the cameras raise alarms again straight away.

As Responder

Deactivate in the user list

  1. Go to Users and find the user in the list.
  2. Turn on Deactivate camera for the user. You can also do this on the user's profile. If the user has no camera, the switch is greyed out and shows User has no camera.
  3. Under Select duration, choose how long, or enter your own number of minutes under Custom duration.
  4. Select Confirm, then Confirm again. The user shows Camera is deactivated with the time left, and Unplanned supervision is greyed out.
  5. To reactivate the cameras early, turn off Deactivate camera in the user list. If the cameras were deactivated by the physical button or by a responder's arrival, you are warned that someone may still be with the user. Select Activate camera to go ahead. The video stream is available again and the cameras raise alarms again straight away.

When you confirm arrival

For event alarms, confirming arrival in TelluGo turns off the user's cameras until the alarm is closed.

If the cameras are already deactivated when you confirm arrival, they stay off for whichever lasts longer: the deactivation or the alarm. For example, if the cameras are deactivated for 2 hours and the alarm is closed after 20 minutes, the cameras stay off until the 2 hours are up.

Use a physical button

A physical button lets personnel deactivate the cameras without opening TelluCare.

  • Mount the button on the wall and connect it to the camera's I/O port. Nothing needs to be configured in TelluCare.
  • Press once to deactivate the camera for 60 minutes.
  • Press again within the 60 minutes to reactivate it straight away.
  • While the camera is deactivated by the button, the LED on the camera is amber. When the camera is active again, the LED is off.

Good to know

  • Deactivation applies to every camera on the user.
  • While the cameras are deactivated, Technicians see Camera is deactivated until: on the user profile, and Responders see Camera is deactivated with the time left in the user list.
